Overview

Dentistry is the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of conditions, disorders, and diseases of the teeth, gums, mouth, and jaw. Often considered necessary for complete oral health, dentistry can have an impact on the health of your entire body.

Application Timeline

Requirements vary by program. This is not an official planning sheet and should be used as a reference. Please consult with an advisor to plan out a timeline that fits you.

  • Start science prerequisites: General Physics, General Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology based on placement/prior coursework – UWB Career Services Coursework
  • Network: Join Pre-Dental clubs, shadow dentists
  • Clinical Hours: Get certified to gain clinical hours in a dental office/clinic setting
  • Summer: Enrichment/Research programs or university dental workshops – Applications due in January/February – UWB Getting Experience

Primary Applications

Application to dental school begins a full year prior to your intended start date. For example, you would apply in Summer of 2026 to enter dental school in Autumn of 2027. Most dental schools belong to the American Association of Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS); students apply to these schools through the online application. 足彩app哪个是正规的 AADSAS application opens in late May and can be submitted starting in June.

Letters of Recommendation Specific to Dental School

Letters of recommendation/evaluation should come from individuals who can speak about characteristics such as your academic ability, interpersonal skills, clinical or research experiences, etc. Letters must be submitted through the AADSAS. Applicants are also advised to check with each of their chosen schools to determine specific information that should be included. A letter from a dental professional is ideal in most cases – consider a dentist you’ve shadowed or worked with for an extended period of time.

Secondary Applications

After reviewing your primary application through the AADSAS, schools may invite you to submit a secondary application specific to that school. Secondary applications usually include more essays and an application fee for the school. This is a necessary step to proceed with your application. You should plan to submit the secondary application as soon as possible to secure an interview.
