Project options consist of internships, research with faculty, individual projects, or group projects. Many large companies recruit for internships up to one year in advance. Job\/internship postings for summer peak in February and March, then quickly dwindle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>As soon as possible after finding project. <\/strong>If still needed, find a <strong><a href=\"#faculty\">CSS faculty advisor<\/a><\/strong> to work with you on the project. Faculty capacity is limited, so ask early!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Quarter before project. <\/strong>Make an appointment with the <a href=\"#coordinator\"><strong>Capstone Coordinator<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>BEFORE project quarter begins.<\/strong> Submit a <strong><a href=\"#contract\">Capstone Contract<\/a><\/strong>. Submissions late in the quarter may be denied. Read <strong>Contract Submission Deadlines<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>During project<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Maintain regular contact with your CSS faculty advisor<\/strong> and submit required reports or other deliverables as agreed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Friday of finals week. <\/strong>Conduct oral and poster presentations at the <strong><a href=\"#colloquium\">Capstone Colloquium<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"prerequisites\">Prerequisite courses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You must complete <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">all<\/span><\/strong> of the following courses before you are eligible to register for CSS 497:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>CSS 301: Technical Writing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CSS 342: Data Structures &amp; Algorithms I<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CSS 343: Data Structures &amp; Algorithms II<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CSS 350: Management Principles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CSS 360: Software Engineering<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CSS 370: Analysis &amp; Design<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CSS 422: Hardware<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CSS 430: Operating Systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minimum of 10 credits (usually 2 courses) of CSS electives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Under some circumstances, a student who not yet completed <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">one or two<\/span><\/strong> of these requirements may petition to register early for CSS 497. Before choosing, give careful consideration as to which option will be most beneficial to your unique interests and circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">All projects must demonstrate academic merit, and must meet conditions for approval<\/span><\/strong> as specified by your CSS faculty advisor, the CSS program, and the requirements of any external project partners or employers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Frequently asked questions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Is it possible to complete CSS 497 out of the area\/state\/country?<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Yes, talk with your CSS faculty advisor and the Capstone Coordinator for more details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What are the grading options for CSS 497?<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your CSS faculty advisor can choose to grant either graded credit (4.0-scale) or ungraded credit (CR\/NC) for the project.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Option 1: Sponsored Internship<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With this option, opportunities for projects are identified through internships sponsored by local firms, multi-national corporations, government agencies, or non-profit organizations. Some companies and organizations have established internship programs, while others will work with the student to find an appropriate internship project. Internships can be found either by looking on your own, or a through UW resources (read <strong><a href=\"#internships\">Internships<\/a><\/strong>, below). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Option 2: Current Employment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are currently employed, you may be able to incorporate that work into your Capstone project. All projects must demonstrate effort that provides additional benefit to both the student and employer, which means the project must involve work that is above and beyond what is normally expected by the employer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Option 3: Faculty Research Internship<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You may work with a faculty member on a research project that has significant implications for industry and\/or the community. At least one external Capstone sponsor and\/or granting agency must be identified as a reviewer of the work to be completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Option 4: Individual Project &#8211; 足彩app哪个是正规的 Defined<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A student may identify a computing project, topic, or an idea that they feel meets a need of the industry and\/or the community. 足彩app哪个是正规的 project must be challenging and demonstrate academic merit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Option 5: Group Project &#8211; 足彩app哪个是正规的 Defined<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A group of students may identify a computing project, topic, or an idea that they feel meets a need of the industry and\/or the community. 足彩app哪个是正规的 project must be challenging and demonstrate academic merit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"internships\">Internships<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do I find an internship?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While UWB facilitates student internship searches, <strong>you are ultimately responsible for finding your Capstone Project.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UW resources that can help you find internships include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/career-services\/\">UW Bothell Career Services<\/a><\/strong>. Provides guidance in writing and polishing resumes, and workshops for how to search for jobs, do well in interviews, and negotiate salaries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uw.joinhandshake.com\/login\">Handshake<\/a><\/strong>. Contains regularly updated job postings and events like career fairs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/career-services\/events\">Career Fairs<\/a>. <\/strong>Provide an opportunity to speak directly with recruiters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We also recommend utilizing your personal networking skills to locate internships. Ask yourself, &#8220;What three people do I know that are most likely to know about opportunities?&#8221;, and then ask those people the same question (and so on).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can I be paid for my internship?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Some internships offer a salary to students while others may not. Payment for an internship is negotiated between the student and the sponsor. We recommend choosing a faculty member that has research interests in common with your Capstone sponsor (employer, customer, etc.) or that you feel comfortable working with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>足彩app哪个是正规的s are expected to maintain contact with their faculty advisor throughout the course of the internship to discuss project status, academic work required, lessons learned, academic models addressed, and other issues associated with the completion of the internship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that the <strong>faculty advisor<\/strong> (who helps with your capstone project) is not the same as an <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uwb.campus.eab.com\/\">academic advisor<\/a><\/strong> (who helps you plan your academics and find university resources).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"contract\">Capstone contract<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Contracts must be completed as thoroughly as possible and have all relevant information attached when you submit it to your CSS faculty advisor for review. Your CSS faculty advisor must review and sign the contract before the Capstone sponsor signs. Visit the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/stem\/undergraduate\/majors\/bscsse\/resources#contracts\">足彩app哪个是正规的 Forms &amp; Resources page<\/a><\/strong> to download the &#8220;CSS 497 Contract&#8221; form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to the length of some projects, your CSS faculty advisor can give approval to divide the project over two or more quarters. Most faculty require students to prepare a report for evaluation and grading at the end of every quarter of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Detailed guidance on how to structure your contract and fulfill its obligations can be found on the <a href=\"http:\/\/courses.washington.edu\/css497\/\"><strong>Capstone Guidelines page<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"deadlines\">Contract deadlines<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Submit your <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">completed and signed<\/span><\/strong> contract to the <a href=\"https:\/\/cssresources.uwb.edu\/\"><strong>Capstone Coordinator<\/strong><\/a> at least one week before the quarter begins. Once approved by the CSS Program, you will be given an entry code to register yourself into CSS 497.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You must submit your contract <strong>no later than 3:00 p.m.<\/strong> on the deadline dates below.
