Friends, supporters, alumni\u202fand students \u2014 an entire community \u2014 joined together on Nov. 19\u202ffor the University of Washington Bothell\u2019s I \u2764 UW Bothell Luncheon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This annual fundraiser both celebrates students and highlights how we can best support them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 360 attendees this year raised more than $252,000, which will be directed to essential student programs such as scholarships and the critical aid funds that help students who have financial emergencies or require temporary assistance to meet basic needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Showcasing student successes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Stories about how students thrive during their UW Bothell Husky\u202fexperience<\/a> were central to the event. Some of those experiences were on display at a \u201cpre-party\u201d before the main program as multiple students from campus clubs met with attendees to showcase their\u202fprojects and passions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And ASUWB president Adan Rodriguez offered remarks about his personal experiences at UW Bothell as well as what he has learned about other students while serving as a\u202fmember of student government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA few years ago, when I started at UW Bothell, if you had told me one day I would be student government president, I would have said I didn\u2019t believe you,\u201d Rodriguez said. \u201cBut since then, I\u2019ve grown from a once-shy student into a confident leader.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given the small community feel on campus, he added, he found opportunities he wouldn\u2019t have at a larger university. \u201cI know it would have been impossible [to become ASUWB president] without the opportunities and support I received at UW Bothell.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sharing diverse campus perspectives<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Caroline Titan and Chancellor Kristin G. Esterberg also offered compelling perspectives on the UW Bothell Husky Experience.\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Titan described campus-wide work to develop student, faculty and staff skills in having \u201cconversations across difference\u201d through both the Constructive Dialogue program that started in 2021. She also reported on 足彩app哪个是正规的 Pluralism Project that launched this academic year to teach students how to be community bridge builders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am so proud that for our students, a UW Bothell degree not only carries the high academic reputation of the UW but also conveys to their future employers that this individual is particularly skilled in dialogue that breaks down divisions, in relationship building that humanizes \u2018the other\u2019 and in collective action towards a common good that makes our communities better for all.\u201d\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chancellor Esterberg underlined the importance of\u202fher role representing and advocating for UW Bothell during these trying times, including the attacks on higher education. She also reminded everyone in the room that UW Bothell can be a source of hope even in times that feel dark.\u202f\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLet me offer my promise to you, as chancellor of this great campus, with unequivocal clarity:\u202fUW Bothell has always existed to provide a diverse student body with access to an amazing UW education\u2026to work with and in service to our region and our communities \u2026 and to encourage dialogue across all differences, recognizing the full humanity of everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Making an impact through philanthropy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To close the event, Vice Chancellor for Advancement Rebecca Blume\u202fspoke about the critical impact of philanthropy at UW Bothell, emphasizing that a student\u2019s experiences inside and outside the classroom can be sidetracked for any number of reasons.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHard work and intelligence don\u2019t mean much when you\u2019re in a financial emergency,\u201d she said. \u201cToo many students are at risk of leaving college \u2014 and not meeting their potential \u2014 through no fault of their own.\u201d\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to supporters of the\u202fUW Bothell community, she added, we\u202fcan ensure that more students have the help they need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
