At Crow Watch 2018, held Oct. 27 on the University of Washington Bothell and Cascadia College\u2019s shared campus, they were able to see for the first time the crows\u2019 destination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve seen small batches of crows heading this direction, and we\u2019re thinking this is spectacular \u2014 seeing 50, 60, 70 crows,\u201d Dave Schoen said. \u201cBut then you come out here, and you\u2019re seeing literally thousands and thousands of crows all gathered in one place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou have to see it to believe it,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>足彩app哪个是正规的 Schoens said they also appreciated the presentations at Crow Watch 2018. It drew hundreds of people at dusk to <a href=\"\/about\/crows\">see the estimated 16,000 crows that arrive before they roost each night in the campus wetlands<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"220\" height=\"198\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2023\/07\/crop-crow-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28079\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Co-hosted by UW Bothell and Cascadia College in collaboration with the Eastside Audubon Society, 21 Acres Center and the city of Bothell, Crow Watch 2018 started at 3 p.m. to give visitors time to admire a gallery of art about corvids and to browse research posters and community tables at the North Creek Events Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three speakers then gave talks and answered questions in the adjoining Activities and Recreation Center, overlooking the wetlands. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/181027a-052.jpg\" alt=\"Lois Landgrebe\" class=\"wp-image-26286\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Translating from the native Lushootseed language, Lois Landgrebe, a Tulalip storyteller, told tribal stories of birds sneaking off with food. \u201cCrow is very industrious but also a trickster,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ursula Valdez, a UW Bothell ornithologist who teaches natural history using the wetlands, talked about how crows are viewed in science, art and culture. \u201c足彩app哪个是正规的re are so many things that connect humans with crows. I incorporate that in class,\u201d she said, noting that there is a \u201cmurder\u201d (the noun for a flock of crows) every day on campus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/181027a-093.jpg\" alt=\"Ursula Valdez\" class=\"wp-image-26287\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Douglas Wacker, a UW Bothell assistant professor whose students helped chart the \u201crivers of crows\u201d that flow into the roost, described current undergraduate research. Using video and audio recordings to match crow squawks with other behaviors, students are starting to find patterns.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/181027a-113.jpg\" alt=\"Douglas Wacker\" class=\"wp-image-26288\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI learned a lot more and have a greater appreciation of crows than I ever had before,\u201d Dave Schoen said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lydia Schoen enjoyed hearing Landgrebe speak in the native tongue and feeling the passion that Valdez and Wacker evinced for their scholarship. She also was enthralled to see crows edging the rooftops and crowding onto trees on campus.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/181027a-142.jpg\" alt=\"Crows on roof\" class=\"wp-image-26289\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s dark, but you could see the trees were just full,\u201d she said. \u201c足彩app哪个是正规的y would leave in small groups. It was fascinating.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among those with their own crow stories were Kirsten Atik and Tony Grob with their children, Addison, 6, and Tallinn, 2, who live in north Seattle. 足彩app哪个是正规的y regularly notice \u201ca whole bunch of crows flying in this direction,\u201d Atik said. \u201cSo we said, \u2018Addie, the crows are flying to Bothell.\u2019 After a few times, she\u2019d say, \u2018Crows!
