Shayne did an abridged version of a lesson from her course \u201cPlace and Displacement in the Americas\u201d that she co-teaches with IAS faculty member <a href=\"\/ias\/faculty-and-staff\/jennifer-atkinson\">Jennifer Atkinson<\/a>. She chose an interactive lesson about the Chicano mural movement where students viewed images and discussed the civil rights movement from which the murals emerged. Shayne has a similar event scheduled later in the month for students from Voyager middle school as part of Cheryl Gordon\u2019s community based learning and research (CBLR) course \u201cEducation and Society.\u201d Shayne\u2019s relationship with Voyager began in February 2014 when she did her first mock classroom for them.
