Ten students share the fifth annual Leslie Ashbaugh Feminist Praxis in Education (LAFPIE) Award!

This year ten GWSS students from Lauren Lichty’s class “Participatory Action Research to Address Sexual and Relationship Violence at the University of Washington Bothell” will share the LAFPIE award. 足彩app哪个是正规的 Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies (GWSS) community created the award in 2016, the year they launched the degree, to honor and commemorate their colleague Leslie Ashbaugh.

Masahiro Sugano’s “Competitive Filmmaking” Class Wins Top Prize at the 2021 Cadence Video Poetry Festival

Practicing social justice with Snohomish County

足彩app哪个是正规的s in the Master of Arts in Policy Studies program gained practical experience in a winter quarter partnership with Snohomish County’s new Office of Social Justice. As part of IAS faculty member Charlie Collin’s Practicum for Policy Studies course, the students worked on three projects: an assessment of marginalized communities; a comparison of strategies with other governments; and a survey of diversity, equity and inclusion among county employees.

Debate sharpens nonnative speaking skills

English is the second language for students Helen Fita and Misheel Ildbaatar, members of the UW Bothell Debate Team. Both say debate has prompted new ways to think about language and culture — and has been a way to make friends during remote operations. According to IAS faculty member and director of forensics Denise Vaughan, students improve their literacy by capitalizing on storytelling and speaking about what they’re interested in. “足彩app哪个是正规的y can find their strength in speaking and connect it back to their academic work in terms of writing.”

Kristina Jorgensen collaborates on legislation and receives capacity-building grant

In 2020, Kristina Jorgensen graduated from IAS with a major in Society, Ethics & Human Behavior, minor in Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies, and began her graduate education in the M.A. in Policy Studies. She is also an alum of the D.C. Seminar in Human Rights (2019).
