IAS embraces a mission focused on working closely with a diverse student body in a transformational learning environment. This mission underwrites our emphasis on interdisciplinary and engaged research and creative practice, teaching, and service that address the concerns of our region and world.
Mission Statement

As a faculty and staff, we inspire our students to engage creatively and ethically with the concerns of the region and the world. We dedicate ourselves to integrative research and creative practice, innovative and effective pedagogy, and dynamic curricula that prepare students to live and work in environments that are diverse and complex. We recognize, reflect on, and challenge unequal relations of power and privilege in our curriculum, scholarship and community partnerships. Goals
Be a leading center for interdisciplinary and engaged scholarship and pedagogy with a research and creative culture that fosters the best work, and values the overall well-being, of its faculty, staff, and students.
Provide a student- and learning-centered education that attends to difference and power, and hones students’ abilities to think critically and creatively, seek knowledge in and across disciplines, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively and ethically.
Foster an inclusive educational environment that enhances the capacities of students, staff, and faculty members to work together across differences, to reflect on their practices, and to recognize and challenge unequal relations of power.
Build and sustain partnerships with individuals, communities, and organizations that seek the socially-just and environmentally-sustainable development of the region and can help students link classroom learning to their career and life ambitions.

Scholarship
Scholarship lies at the heart of the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences. Our faculty members develop local, national, and international reputations through their published research and creative practice, their innovative pedagogies, and their efforts to reimagine what an institution of higher education can do and be. 足彩app哪个是正规的ir work also extends beyond the academy through public and community-engaged projects related to their areas of expertise.
Scholarship is a term that encompasses all of these activities, and pursuant with UW policies and state law, IAS supports its faculty to pursue interdisciplinary scholarship, cross-disciplinary understanding, and a collaborative and engaged intellectual culture within and beyond IAS.
Why does scholarship matter to IAS students?
Faculty members with national and international reputations in their fields are able to ensure that course content is up-to-date, that new curricula and pedagogies are cutting-edge, and that student publications are of the highest quality. Faculty members with active and engaged lives as scholars provide IAS students, undergraduate and graduate, with rigorous instruction in the classroom and dedicated mentoring beyond it.
