This kit contains everything you need to start collecting data in your community.

In this kit, you can build an insect house to nurture the beneficial insects around your home and observe insect activity. Insects provide ecosystem services like decomposition of organic matter, nutrient cycling, pest control and pollination. This kit is a fun and easy way to learn about insects and their impact. Monitoring insect activity around your area can foster a lifelong interest in providing for important species that in turn provide for us. This kit contains everything you need to build an insect house plus important information on commonly seen insects in Washington, tips for spotting insects, insect identification and a breakdown of ecosystem services that insects provide.

Plastic Bottle Bird Feeder

This hands-on, all-ages activity invites you to slow down, create, and reflect on your relationship with the natural world. Using a recycled plastic bottle, participants will build and decorate a simple bird feeder while learning about the basics of Kincentricty, or the understanding that humans are not above other living beings but part of a shared community of life. What participants create during the event will be taken home and used as a way to continue observing, learning from, and caring for our avian neighbors.
