Alternative Spring Break

Alternative Spring Break (ASB) is a different way to spend your spring break! ASB allows students to engage in community service and educational programming. 足彩app哪个是正规的se programs allow students and community members a chance to learn new skills, connect with others, volunteer, and support their local communities.

This happens every year in March, during the UW Bothell/Cascadia College spring break. Most events are open to all, but please check the specific event for full details on who can participate as some events are for students only. CoSEE, Outdoor Wellness, UW Bothell Sustainability, and Cascadia Sustainability partner to host ASB for the Bothell campus and surrounding community.

Dosewallips Camping & Marine Conservation

March 21-23, 2026 | departure on the morning of March 21st, and return on the evening of March 23rd. Detailed information will be shared with registrants.

Join the Outdoor Wellness Team as we venture to the Olympic Peninsula for an early season camping trip! We will be staying at Dosewallips State Park and exploring the teeming ecosystems both on land and in the water within the park. Get ready to learn more about Washington’s native wildlife and how you can help contribute to their protection and wellbeing as you make new friends and memories along the way.

Registration Opens February 18, 2026 (Open to UWB and Cascadia students ONLY).


Restoration Party at North Creek Forest

March 24, 2026 | 10:00am–12:00pm (followed by provided lunch)

Join Friends of North Creek Forest to get our hands dirty! We will be spreading locally donated mulch over an area of the forest that has recently been cleared of invasive blackberry. 足彩app哪个是正规的 mulch reduces erosion, stabilizes the soil, and breaks down into nutrients for the next generation of forest plants and animals. North Creek Forest is a 64-acre mature forest located just outside downtown Bothell and provides habitat for a diverse range of plants and animals.

21 Acres – Food Connections Day

March 25, 2026 | 10:00am–12:00pm (followed by provided lunch and a sustainable buildings tour from 1:00pm-2:00pm)

Join us at 21 Acres for a work party mulching and path-building at their food forest and learn about food access and connections to our Bothell campus food forest! We’ll also explore their campus market and library and get a full sustainable buildings tour of their newly recertified LEED Platinum building!

EERC Wildlife Walk

March 26, 2026 | 10:00am–12:00pm

CoSEE student researcher Ash Putzke will guide the group in a discussion about wildlife and current wildlife research in the park, including recent camera-trap findings that highlight the ecological importance of downed deadwood. Ash will also share insights on pileated woodpeckers as keystone species and lead a walk to active sites where participants can observe signs of their activity.

As we move through the park, the conversation will explore themes of biodiversity, habitat connectivity, ecological isolation, and the broader importance of conducting research in places like the park to support resilient ecosystems.

Format:

  • 30-minute interactive presentation led by CoSEE student researcher Ash Putzke
  • 2-hour guided walk to several sites with a high likelihood of wildlife activity related to downed deadwood

What to bring:

  • Water bottle
  • Comfortable hiking or walking shoes
  • Weather-appropriate outerwear
  • Ponchos are available for anyone who needs one during the walk
