Integrating a few of the ideas below could lead to a more productive experience for both your interns and your organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Engagement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Interns are expected to fully engage:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Co-create learning goals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be challenged<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work on projects important to the organization<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Produce work samples they can add to their professional portfolios<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contribute to organizational decision-making<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a safe opportunity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Exposure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Interns are exposed to diversity:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ways of thinking and solving problems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strategies for prioritizing and managing work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Methods of communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Projects and tasks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>People, teams, and organizational levels<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Relationships<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Interns build substantive connections with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Interns and coworkers in immediate work team<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interns and staff members in other teams<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supervisors and other mentors committed to helping interns succeed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Individuals who might become important networking contacts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reflection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Interns are asked to reflect on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Progress towards stated learning goals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What they still need to learn<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What they value<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Who they are<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Who they want to become<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Career development goals and next steps<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Feedback<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Interns receive rich performance feedback:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Regularly scheduled informal check-in meetings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Periodic formal performance evaluations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From both supervisors and peers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Focused on what they are doing well and how they could improve<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tangible ideas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ask interns what they want to learn and create or modify projects accordingly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assign both individual and team projects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plan social activities for interns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have executives share career advice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask interns to write meeting agendas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Allow time for <a href=\"\/career-services\/resources\/networking\/career-conversations\">informational interviews<\/a> with various employees.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Require interns to write learning logs or field journals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have interns present on their projects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide professionalism training.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For examples of how employers have implemented high impact practices, read NACE&#8217;s article on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.naceweb.org\/talent-acquisition\/internships\/internship-issues-solutions-best-practices\/\">Internship issues, solutions, best practice<\/a>s.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Reference: High-Impact Educational Practices: What 足彩app哪个是正规的y Are, Who Has Access to 足彩app哪个是正规的m, &amp; Why 足彩app哪个是正规的y Matter by George Kuh (2008).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Offering high impact internships takes intentional planning and implementation but increases intern engagement, learning, and desire to stay with an organization long-term.
